Spec:IntroductionMost of you might know me in Ragnaros (Horde Side) as Pyroching or just Pyro. As most of my friends and fellow guildies know, I was coached by one of the best (if not the best) protection paladins on this server known as Talarina. After several months of information exchange between each other about Protection Paladins, I’ve decided to make my own guide about this so polemical class. Keep in mind that this will be a specific guide for Warmane and not with influences from Retail, since, some issues are still broken in several aspects. With this, let’s start.
Top Priority StatsAfter several hours, days, even months (!), I’ve come to a really basic result. Armor will always be superior to Stamina. With this:Armor Stamina (Based on fights of course). There’s a lot of discussion with this with people stating that stacking Stamina on a Protection Paladin is the way to go. They’re wrong. Completely wrong. When you take the choice of going for a so called “Full Stamina” build you’re wasting a lot of stats that will be needed on the table in most of the fights. Going with the so called “Full Stamina” build just means that you will NOT be a healer friend.
Welcome to this World of Warcraft Battle for Azeroth Guide for Discipline Priests looking to optimize their healing in PvE end-game. The recommendations in this guide are a mixture of automated simulation data and hand-picked choices that account for the wide variety of character setups at level 120.
You will take more damage and you won’t be able to MITIGATE (record this word, we’ll use it several times in this guide) most of the damage that an armor based protection paladin can.Now here’s a typical statement: “Oh, but Stamina gives you more HP that means you can handle more damage “The answer to this is: NO! Bringing this to short and really simple terms it’s just an optical illusion. You won’t be able to handle more damage. In fact, each swing from a boss will drop you down to your knees faster. You will stress your healing group without any kind of need. One major point though: With this I’m not stating that you SHOULDN’T have a Stamina Set. In fact, you should. There are certain fights where you can use and grab stamina pieces.
In fact, there’s one crucial point in this guide: There isn’t a proper BiS Set List! With this said, here’s how I prioritize the stats in Warmane;. Stamina: It is in fact a top priority. But not over Armor.
With this said – I’m referring myself to the gemming process and pieces selection. 1 point in Stamina will give us something like 1011 hp per point (without buffs involved in the process). Armor: This is our top priority hands down. Armor will shine in most of the encounters through the end game raiding content. For example, an encounter with Lich King where most of his direct damage is Physical apart from Soul Reaper (even that is Hybrid, where you still take Physical Damage with Shadow Damage). Agility: Now this is where most of the people don’t understand the concept of Agility on Protection Paladins. And I’ll explain: Each point of agility that a Prot Paladin has will give him Armor (Beautiful, right?) + Dodge + Crit.
Dodge, as it says, will help us with the damage mitigation (even with the ICC Debuff) and Crit will help our threat scaling. It is in fact a beautiful stat for Protection Paladins. But, keep in mind, we will only gem Agility and not gear ourselves with Agility Gear like crazy.
Defense Rating: This is one of the most “ignored” stat in Warmane besides the so called cap. It is never bad to have more Defense Rating than what you should. Let me explain you why: Protection Paladins have a crucial Talent called Ardent Defender that will give you a “Second Life”. That same talent will heal you based on your Defense Rating (Yes, Defense Rating does scale this same talent – But keep in mind it scales until 30% of your maximum HP. Keep in mind as well that thanks to a Warmane bug when you get one shot, this same talent, will bring you up to 100% hp. It is not properly scripted so we have to had this “bug” to the table). So it really isn’t that bad to go past the so called 545 cap.
It will still benefit you in that aspect (and several others). Dodge Rating: As we know, this is one of the most unpopular stats for tanking. In the end game raiding, referring myself to Icecrown Citadel again, we have the Dodge Debuff that will drop our Dodge Rating with the value of 20%.
With this said, Dodge is not a viable solution for most of the fights since we will drop 20% of it’s value as soon as we step inside of ICC. That doesn’t mean you can’t make a proper balanced stat of it. Dodge will still influence your fights inside ICC even if it’s nerfed with the debuff. With this said, don’t ignore the stat completely. Block Value: Block Value is one of the stats we must keep in mind as well. Please, remind yourself: Block Value is NOT the same thing as Block Rating. Block Rating increases the percentage of blocking attacks.
Block Value is the amount of damage you block. With this said, for certain fights, you can try to bet on the Block Value itself. Fights like Lich King this stat can be really important, and sometimes, a life savior. People tend to ignore it but if you really want to be optimal, this is one of the things that might save your life and make your life easier for the healers as well.
It’s another chunk of mitigation that you get. Parry: Parry works similar to the Dodge Rating. So long story short it has the same output as the dodge rating; Sadly, in Warmane, it doesn’t work properly. It is still kinda buggy. It acts like a dodge itself and it doesn’t give the devolving hit after the parry itself.
But then again, it’s a stat that we will try to be balance with others when you make a proper stat balance. Strength: Strength gives us several aspects. For one, it raises our Block Value for something like 0.7 per 1 Strength. Strength will also increase your Spell Power that will influence the damage output from several spells from your rotation. Although, keep in mind, that too much strength will give you diminishing returns. So that’s one of the main reasons why you don’t gem Strength + Stamina all the way. Once you get near the so called Block Value Cap there’s no point in keep it going.
Strength is really good if you’re having threat issues thought (but you really shouldn’t have threat issues). CapsHit Rating: 263 or 8% Total.Defense Rating: 540. There is a huge discussion and you will find a lot of people that state that you need 545 Defense Rating to be capped. And that’s a myth.
You only need 540 no matter what. Those 5 points won’t make a proper difference. Still though, with the gear itself and with the gemming you will do it will go through the 545 number. So it doesn’t even matter. Consider yourself ICC ready, for example, when you hit the 540 cap.Expertise: In theory, it should be 26.
But to be fair, 21 is quite enough. You won’t get parried (even with the latest fix – Tested this for about 2 hours. After the count of 50 swings I got parried twice on Lord Marrowgar) and you won’t miss your attacks. ‘Cause to be fair, in fully cap to be Parry Capped (influenced with the Expertise itself) you’ll need 56 points in Expertise, which is not viable at all if you make the math (not even in Retail). So I’ll call it as a cap of 21.Block Value: This is one thing that most of the players don’t pay attention to. But this is extremely important. There’s a value that you want to reach no matter what; Somewhere between 2500 and 2600 Block Value – This is the cap that you want in a Raid.
After those 2600 you’re starting to waste stats. When you get to that cap you should start considering in going for things like armor. Threat Issues. Expertise: This is your best friend no matter what. You’ll find yourself Expertise capped when you’re rocking Mithrios and the Glyph Seal of Vengeance. If you’re not an owner of the weapon Mithrios don’t be afraid of rocking some Expertise Rating gems to your set.
It won’t hurt you; In fact it will help you quite a bit. So don’t hesitate. Strength: If you pay attention, you’ll notice that Strength is in every single one of your tanking pieces. Strength is your second best friend for threat generation. It will give you, when full buffed, Attack Power, Spell Power and even Block Rating. All that a tank needs right? Keep in mind that it has a diminishing return though.
So this is why you don’t gem it, since the gear itself, will throw you up in the cap (somewhere between 2500 and 2600 Block Value – Keep in mind that Block Value is indeed a nice thing but please don’t try to rush for it. You will lack the rest of the stats if you actually do that) that you need. Plus, as far as it goes, once you’re fair geared you won’t have that much threat issues anymore. Block Value: As I stated above in the post, this is one life savior. But it also counts for your threat since your Holy Shield ability damages your attacker.
So this is, as well, one of your threat helpers. Build Types & GlyphsAs we know there are several builds. I will go for three specs that are literally the specs that I use personally. Each spec has it’s own explanation and why and when you should use them;A good spec for starters. This has the “whole package”. In this spec you can find the Seal of Command for when you’re having issues with threat with multiple targets. Many people call this the traditional spec.
Personally, I don’t use it since I don’t use Seal of Command myself. This is my personal spec. In this Spec I drop Seal of Command since I don’t really like to tank with it. Using Seal of Corruption I can hold agro from multiple targets (Press Tab – It’s your best buddy!) from BiS toons.
No matter what fight it is. Keep in mind in raid comps you will have classes that can help your threat generation as well. This is the most balanced spec that I’ve used and I’ve seen so far. This is a personal spec for Lich King. As the title says – MT only. This spec has the goal of betting in survival & mitigation.
While we still have all of the raid & personal defensives that we need we also get ourselves more optimal for the LK fight itself. Keep in mind that most of the damage is indeed physical. These are also a personal spec for Lich King. As the title says – OT Adds Control. This specs are literally built up to make sure that all the Adds are under control and also to help us develop a better mitigation of the damage output from those same mobs.
I don’t really use Seal of Command ‘cause Seal of Corruption by itself does the job. If you need Seal of Command to hold the threat of so many adds you’re probably doing something wrong. You shouldn’t really need it no matter what. You have the time needed to deliver the damage output that you need for your threat to rise up and hold the adds properly.
Again – The Tab key is one hell of a friend to target multiple targets quickly. The main difference between both is really a preference scheme. In one we have Crusader Talanted and in the other we have Seal of the Pure Talented. In overall it all comes up to your personal preference. GlyphsAs for Glyphs I’ll say that it really depends in several aspects – If you feel concerned about your threat or if you want to mitigate your damage. With this I’ll say that we have a good pack:Mitigation Pack;(3% damage reduction. A MUST HAVE!)(Helps you in the expertise issue.)(Those 8% will make the difference.
With this you can invest more time in the Armor stack through gems for example).Minors(1% damage increase with all abilities while fighting undead – ICC is filled with undeads)(Reduces in a good portion the cooldown of our ability Lay on Hands. Always a good thing to have.)Third minor is really a pessoal thing. So decide what minor you want to use in this spot!Threat Issues(Same explanation as above.)(10% damage increase whenever you cast your judgements. Kindly nice.)(Simple: Consecration lasts more time and the cooldown is reduced)SITUATIONAL(Yes. You might need this. Specially when you’re solo tanking Lich King and you need that stun available to stop the Shamblings from hitting you with Shockwave. This might help you when you have hunters that are struggling to do a proper Tranq shot, for example).
Enchants & GemsAs the title says, this is where I’ll tell you how I enchant and Gem myself. This is literally how I believe that it’s the best way to enchant and gem yourself;Enchants:Head:Shoulders: – Is one of your options. This is the one I’m currently using.
You can also use: orBack:Chest: or – I’m not including the Defense Rating enchant since you won’t need that Defense Rating in overall perspective.Wrists: – If you have Leatherworking:Hands: In case you have Engineering: – In case you have Leatherworking: In case you don’t have any of them I would highly suggest:. Yes, I will not recommend the enchant Armsman for a simple reason.
Those 2% threat generator are only 2%. It won’t scale. Those 2% threat won’t help you in threat generation that much sadly. Plus the parry rating benefit gets a huge diminishing return so it’s not that worth. You might use it; It’s not awful. But I wouldn’t recommend it when using the calculator.Legs:Boots:.
No I won’t recommend Tuskkar’s Vitality. You’re wasting Stamina for a Minor Run Speed Increase and, to be fair, if you want to be a really good tank you must know where to place yourself no matter what. Besides that you MUST have reflexes no matter what. That minor run speed increase won’t save your life if you don’t know what you’re doing and if you don’t have the reflexes. Your life doesn’t depend on that.Weapon:Shield:Rings: In case you have Enchanting, don’t forget to enchant your rings!GemmingSo here’s how I believe you should gem yourself. Like this it will make your stats table really balanced and quite all around for every single fight;Blue Socket:Red Socket:Yellow Socket:Meta:Yes, when you’re a fresh Protection Paladin you might consider yourself in gemming Stamina.
It is indeed not a bad start. Plus it isn’t bad as well to gem some Strength + Stamina gems as well. Then again – Once you start gearing up you might consider going with the gems listed above. ALWAYS TRY TO GET THAT SOCKET BONUS!Keep in mind we’re gemming Agility like that because of a really simple fact: Three stats rise thanks to Agility.
Dodge + Crit + Armor. Amazing right? RotationThe rotation for Protection Paladins is one of the simplest ones. But, keep in mind, to master the Protection Paladin and to know what to pop and when to pop takes time. As long the time goes you’ll learn the ways of proper tanking and when to pop what. There are a few points that you must keep in mind if you’re starting though:1. Righteous Fury.
NEVER FORGET TO TURN IT ON BEFORE FIGHTS. I’ve already seen tanks fail in Light of Dawn attempts thanks to that. Keep your Sacred Shield & Holy Shield & Divine Plea up all the time.
Don’t hesitate. Those are your top priority. You MUST keep them up 100% of the times. Even if people tell you that the Holy Paladin can use Sacred Shield on you (it is true) tell them to shut up. Your Sacred Shield is way stronger and lasts longer.
Don’t forget this. Divine Plea is also your best friend; While rocking Glyph of Divine Plea you take 3% less damage plus it restores your mana pool. So keep it up always – You don’t need to spam the cast of it; Your melee attacks will refresh it so try to keep it with an uptime of 100%.2. As you might notice we have other Threat Abilities such as: Shield of Righteousness, Hammer of the Righteousness, Judgements and Consecration. If you pay attention as well they have a 6 seconds cooldown or a 9 seconds cooldown.
There isn’t a really exact order for them, they can be kindly situational. What you really want to do though is to make sure you rotate those Cooldowns properly so you always have one threat ability available to use (it is most likely impossible to be out of cooldowns, lol). What I usually do, follows this order; (10 Seconds to Pull) Sacred Shield Divine Plea (Fight Begins) Hand of Reckoning Holy Shield Consecration Hammer of the Righteousness Judgement of the Light or Judgement of Wisdom if you’re running OOM (Out of Mana) for example – One of those Judgements is fine and situational.3. You have defensives. They are one of the things that make Protection Paladins really decent. Divine Protection, Divine Sacrifice (don’t forget to cancel the raid effect if you want to use it on yourself) etc.
Random Questions (FAQ)Q: Mithrios vs Havoc’s?Almost all of your abilities benefit from Mithrios, Bronzebeard’s Legacy. And just with this it should be a enough reason to never swap your weapon no matter what. Havoc’s will give you the Crit and the Haste. Yes it does have more weapon damage but it won’t scale on your main threat abilities. And if that’s not enough – Your trading Expertise and Strength for the damage itself. You’re not generating threat has you should. So the answer is Mithrios.I’ll try to post a picture of threat generation of both weapons soon.Q: So is Stamina stacking bad?Not necessarily.
For example – Magical damage fights like Blood Queen – It is in fact a good idea to use a Stamina Set. Your armor won’t mitigate much damage but the Stamina will help you survive and endure even more. So with that – It’s a situational thing. You should keep in mind that sets will change according to each fight. There isn’t a proper BiS set list. There is one really balanced set list that you can follow – But that doesn’t mean it’s BiS.Q: What Set Pieces to Use?Personally I only recommend a 2 piece for most of the fights. Yes, both have their benefits but I’ll strongly recommend use only 2 piece bonus.
And those pieces would be gloves and chest piece. You will get more benefits using off-pieces from raids than the tier pieces + tier bonus itself. Your stats cap will be reached faster with those same off-pieces than with the tier. With this said, the answer is 2 piece.Q: What about the Libram? What should I use and why?I would recommend Libram of Valiance.
In later game – This is the best libram. In certain fights you might change librams and decide which one fits better for you.
But in overall perspective and in end game content Libram of Valiance will rule supreme. Armory LinksThere are two characters that you can watch for an idea of the gear wise situation; This is my personal toon. Some few changes need to be done specially after the latest tests and it’s still a work in progress. Not fully geared. This is what I can call as personal BiS. This is the gear that I try to optimize my paladin for. With this build we’re literally pushing for the most balanced stats optimization.
In overall and using maths this is the gear that you want if you want to see your defensive stats properly balanced. The only change that can be done is swapping Ashen Band of Endless Courage for Juggernaut Band (25 HC). Of course the armor itself from Ashen Band is a huge help since the armor proc is amazing for fights like LK. So it really is a kindly situational change. As I stated in the beggining – There isn’t a proper and truly BiS list for Prot Paladins.P.S: The owner of the toon is known as Talarina. You can also see the overall stats that I have using this gemming, glyphing and gear with other of my paladins in this screenshot:Buffs beings used with the screenshot taken:Stats with buffs included:Again this is my OVERALL PERFORMANCE GEAR.
Not my armor set, not my stamina set. This is what I believe to be the most balanced set between both – And that’s my main reason of stating that is in fact my preference for all around performance. With the correct procs and fully buffed (ring, libram, weapon enchant) I hit the 4546k armor without any armor pieces.EDIT: I’m not trying to be an elitist here. I am just trying to help the new players – With this don’t flame, don’t insult, don’t rage. We all have different oppinions. Constructive criticism is welcome – I’ll be more than willing to give answers and read proper criticism.
For you to be wise everyday you shall learn. If my English fails in any means – I’m sorry but English is my second language. So if it has some misspells or errors in the grammar – I’m sorry.I’m also adding the different tanking sets that you want to get for each situation. Working on that to make a proper post. Thanks for reading and thanks for your time! Hope this guide helps you to understand Protection Paladins properly!
Comment by xdpiratePRIEST: This is a fight for people who are not afraid to anger the main god.Step 1: Priest are a healing class, which makes them vurile foes in one on one, but you need not worry about that in group pvp.STEP 2: If they turn dark, you have made them angry and your brain may start to smell like burning. Run quickly away. This situation is what spectral wolf talent is made for.STEP 3: If you see a golden water fountain occur, you make breathe sigh of releif because your opponent is a child.the angel with the breasts is your sexual image reward for victory. Comment by DimishAnd i'm going to have to disagree with the Shadow spec. I don't see how Improved Shadowform or Veiled Shadows are really going to be helpful.
While granted, the 2 minutes off the Shadowfiend CD is nice, mana isn't really an issue with shadowpriests. In my opinion, Inner focus is a far better place to stick atleast one talent point (I've macroed it to my Mind Blast for maximum efficiency.). The last 3 however don't really have any better slots to fill, but take your pick from Shadow Affinity, Imp.
Vampiric embrace (For raidwide dmg reduction, not really useful but every little bit helps.) or Imp. Psychic scream and Silence for those random PvP moments (Hey, i'd rather take those two over Imp.
Shadowform and Veiled Shadows anyday.). But of course, it's your call. Also, DO NOT USE GLYPH OF SHADOW WORD PAIN. It gives you 1% of your BASE MANA back. And your base mana is somewhere around 5000 (Base mana is your mana without any intellect or buffs what so ever).
Use Glyph of Mind Sear or Glyph of Dispersion, depending on your mana situation (Are you running low often).Useful Priest Macros:Mind blast while using Inner Focus on every CD. (Inner focus isn't tied to the GCD, so you can macro it to really any spells, but i find Mindblast to get the most use out of it. Replace Mind Blast with your own personal favorite.)#showtooltip Mind Blast/cast Inner Focus/Cast Mind BlastUsing trinkets at every CD. This macro maximises the use of your trinkets, so when ever they're off CD and you're fighting, they're most likely going to go off;). One again, replace Devouring Plague with your spell of choice.#showtooltip Devouring Plague/Cast Devouring Plague/Use 13/use 14Mindflay / Mind Sear macro. This macro allows you to spam the paint of your keyboard buttons without interrupting your spell casting and starting a new one (This is a must have for lazy priests, but i've heard it might decrease your DPS, but of course the decrease is extremely minor.
I've been playing with my priest for a better portion of 3 years now and i haven't noticed a difference, other than the convinience of being able to spam my Mind Flay button =) )#showtooltip Mind sear/cast mind searResurrection macro. This macro announces who you are ressing so the other ressers in the group won't try to resurrect the same person you are. Replace the /p with a /ra if you do a lot of raiding./cast Resurrection/p Ressing%tDispersion macro. This one is just for lols, don't use it in PvP;).#showtooltip Dispersion/cast Dispersion/fartHope this helps atleast someone out there.:). Comment by InertAnd I have to disagree with your talent choices. Is acually useful on some fights in ICC when you take constant damage (Think Festergut, Princes on Heroic, Blood-Queen, Sindragosa.).And I really should test things before saying them.is quite handy since our regen is not that high and is better than since you don't lose 6 seconds doing nothing.is quite useless, you can use at the begining of a fight to let the tank get some aggro.
If you get aggro when you simply do your basic rotation, than it's most likely tank's fault. Is a talent that I agree on taking and it helps out since you can easily do about 1000+ healing every 3 seconds or so. Is also not that amasing since it's a one free spell once in 3 minutes and the crit bonus won't help you improve your DPS that much I guess. Also, when you have 3 mobs or less, don't bother yourself with Shadow Word:Pain, it's rather useless and in that GCD you could have used VT on another mob. Shadow Word:Pain is in general a spell you'll want to use on bosses only. Comment by theakismaniacfor those that like to track their healing as disc properly, what it does is its a plugin for recount that includes damage absorbed like PW: shield, divine aegis and also paladin's sacred shieldreally helps get a better idea of how you stack up vs holy and other healers, because without it, disc healing always is represented the lowest damage healed due to absorbs being in a separate category (not like you cant beat someone on pure healing as disc, its just some people don't realize shielding is just as important as healing in discipline). Comment by ZellirWhit cataclysme you gonna kill the strenght of the priest. And you gonna kill what do the difference of all priest on the game. All the priest are different because they dont have the same talents and now you obligate we to chose something who we wont or not really want.
You make a big failed whit the talent tree of some class. You have delete the much better talent of the shadow priest for heal ( Improve vampirique embrase) and the best mana reg for PvE (Spirit Tap) and alot of other thing who was great for shadow priest PvP and PvE DPS.
I think that be greater before Cataclysme (for the class) and if im obligate to use this new talent tree of b. i will probably stop to play. And im sure of that i'm not alone to think that. Comment by TwoshortySince I saw the new changes of 4.0.1, and on the wait for cataclysm.
I leveled a Shadow Priest to kill time. I'll say since the 4.0.1 changes, Shadow priests are pretty easy to level now.WARNING: Shadow Priests are VERY boring to level at lower levels.
Till they hit level 32 and be able to get this. You will have A LOT of downtime drinking to get your mana back. From what I stated above, after you get to 32. Leveling/Dungeons become way easier with Shadow Form and the glyph above. As you start to level and gain more mana recovering moves such as,.
Leveling become seriously easier.PvE wise: Shadow Priests use powerful DoTs such as. In addition, they have powerful casting spells as well, such as.PvP wise: Shadow Priests are nasty little buggers in PvP, there DoTs and powerful casting can bring down most targets really fast. In addition, they have moves such as, and and many many more.PvE Solo: When I state 'PvE Solo' I'm stating when a Shadow Priests is able to solo many of the group quests set around World of Warcraft.
Shadow Priests are ABLE to solo many of the group quests in WoW without a group or need of help because of there shields and powerful heals with the addition of DoTs. In my time as a Shadow Priest, I soloed almost all the group quests alone. To wrap it all up, Shadow Priests are FUN as they learn new spells. They are a bore fest at the starting areas. They are great in PvE with there powerful DoTs and spells. They are AMAZING in PvP with there DoTs and amazing heals.
Myself I have a 80 Shadow Priest right now, with I started on November 1, 2010 and hit 80 in 20 days. Yes it was that much fun how easy and fun it was to level a Shadow priest.Just remember: Abuse the Dungeon finder, Quest as dungeon finder is looking for a group, Wear BoA gear and have fun.
Hopefully I see more Shadow Priests in Cataclysm. Comment by deadcarrotI personally have recently lvl'd a priest and find that Blizzard have overlooked certain details on the discapline spec as with a little tweaking it makes a highly effective DPS spec they could perhaps add an aditional gear set for disc as the current sets do not play to the disc priests full potential.I know shadow priests boast more DPS than a standard disc priest but thanks to the new tallent tree's a well played Disc can easily give the shadows a run for their money without the inconveniance of not being able to utilise all their spells. Comment by hurdlinfoolAlright so I've played a holy priest since the release of BC. I don't know how i feel about the new healing methods in Cata.
Talents/Procs (I.E. Surge of light, Chakra, and tier 11 4-piece) seem to be built around this new 'heal' spell. Right now in Cata, very few people are geared at all so i understand Mana conservation is a problem, so this new low-cost spell is can be very useful, (even though it takes as long as greater heal to cast, but heals half as much as flash heal) but after your character becomes geared, Mana conservation becomes less of a problem, therefore you can concentrate on phat heals more-so than your dwindling mana pool. I know all the rotations to use as a holy priest and the different situations each spell would be best used in so my friends and I would consider me to be a great healer, but i don't really like the way holy is working out in Cata. If surge of light/chakra would be compatible with flash heal as well, that would be amazing.
Now for a little of yall's input. Comment by BerserkerslashI've heard that Shadow Priests' magic stems from psychic abilities.
I can't help but wonder; lorewise, is this true? I know, I know, things like Psychic Scream and Psychic Horror should explain themselves, but I haven't read any of the novels, nor have I seen anywhere else that this is true.Could anybody confirm or deny this?Really, I'm just geniunely interested.
If their shadow magic really does stem from the mind, then that just adds an interesting aspect that just provides coolness from the sidelines, while also not focusing on it too much. Comment by 2uwghwywbnI would really like it if they renamed some of the spellsMind Blast, Mind Flay, Mind Sear, Mind Spike. And thenMental Domination Mental Haze - cloud the target's mind instead of soothing itTelepathic Vision This way 'Mind' spells are all damage spells. Also, they could make:Holy Word: Renew. To be inline with all other tree equivalent spells (Power Word: Shield & Shadow Word: Pain)Holy Word: Aspire.
How can a prayer be instant cast? And so it would benefit from reducing it's cooldown to 7 sec.Mass Heal. To be inline with all our other base heals (Flash Heal, Heal, Greater Heal & Binding Heal)Prayer of Hope &Divine Prayer. Cause singing Hymns in battle sounds strange imo so 'Prayer' would replace it as a channelled spell with long cooldown.Focused Power.
So that 'Inner' remains a term for priest armours (Fire & Will - or you could rename them to Armour of Devotion & Armour of Virtue respectively)Power Word: Alacrity. To add to existing Power Words (Shield, Fortitude & Barrier)Shadow Word: Silence. To add to existing Shadow Words (Pain & Death)What do yas reckon? Comment by Hanz0If you`re planning on leveling a priest in the near future then rejoice. The priest has become one of the most easiest classes to level if not the easiest, but with a twist! Forget what you know about shadowpriest leveling cause its obsolete.Discipline spec has become significantly superior in cata, specifically these:,.
These right here allows you to solo ALL 3man quests and provided you got heirlooms even some 5man ( Durn anyone? )!But dont think thats it. Every talent in the disc tree screams 'so what if I`m a cloth class? I actually have more survivability than most plate wearers' and by every talent I mean literally I cant fathom why would anyone still want to level as shadowpriest when disc is just.
Overwhelmingly superior. Comment by galoai totally agree with hanzo. I rolled a priest with a thought that being a shadow, lvl-ing up would be faster.
However, after being absent from wow for 3 years ( travelling ) i discovered it is much faster lvl-ing up being discipline since we can easily q as a healer which only requires 1-2 mnts wait. I started my priest last week, and i only have played on the week ends only and now it already lvl 56 ( big lol, as i level up much faster compared to other DPS class especially since i am a healer ). To make matters more interesting, i only discovered the map of orgrimmar, Thunder bluff, and cross roads. Lol i don't even know where should i go for questing any longer. Comment by FroswaldthegreatI suggest wearing when reading this:Shadowpriest, Shadowpriest,Does whatever a Shadow can.Flays a mind, any size,Catches mobs just like flies.Look out! Comment by ArchangelzIt's nice to see blizz make an attempt to fix shadow word death with the new Tier 13 set bonus however it's more or less a band aid and only fixes it for T13 with the bonus. They're needs to be a more permanent fix to the backlash of SWD we can't even use it in most cases or it will simply kill us. Most fights the last 25% alot of raid dmg is going out and it's a straight burn. And for Domo style fights it simply hits soo hard we get killed.A simple solution fix and still keeps the fact you need to be aware when to use it still is that it can't kill you but only take you down to 1% health. So you will still need fast heals if you take any dmg but the spell itself won't kill you.
You could implement this into the spell or itemize it using a glyph.Forgive me if I posted in the wrong place I'm just trying to get some attention from blizz on possible fixes of a half broken spell. Other classes that have a 25% kill spell dont worry about killing themselves in the process. Comment by EllinnaI have leveled up a few priests in my time of playing WoW, and they're very fun to me. I love to heal, and this class is perfect for me. I play all three specs and here is my input on them.Discipline:This is a fantastic healing spec. Putting points into Atonement really help in the healing, as you're most likely going to be bored anyway standing around while waiting for your bubble to disappear of your party members. The extra mana gained from choosing this talent tree is amazing for leveling with, as you will be able to last longer in fights, and in Mana-tombs.
When gained Power Infusion, you will be able to cast it upon yourself (or another desired player) to increase your cast speed and reducing mana cost of spells, so you'll be able to pull off more damage/healing in fights. When soloing, this spec is great for the shield absorb and for the penance damage. Since you do not need to change into a Shadow Form, you can heal and deal damage without worrying to click an extra button.Holy:I have not come across many well-played Holy Priests, but they are easy enough to get a handle on. When leveling (once you gain the Chakra spell), you stay on the single target ( Serenity) Chakra for better heals. When you settle down on leveling, or get to higher dungeons that require more area of effect healing, Chakra: Sanctuary is really useful. For the Chakra: Chastise, fights such as Chimaeron in Blackwing Descent are in need of this Chakra (since healing is reduced by 99%).For raiding, I think this spec is handy for most fights inside of (current content) Dragon Soul. There's a real advantage for the Chakra: Sanctuary on Ultraxion, due to so much AoE damage.
As for fights such as Yor'sahj the Unsleeping in Dragon Soul, Chakra: Serenity is really useful because of his debuff.Shadow:Shadow is wonderful, easy damage. I recommend dotting up your target, then using Mind Flay for maximum damage. If you're looking to burn real fast, Mind Spike is helpful. For fights such as the Spine of Deathwing in Dragon Soul, Vampric Embrace helps relieve your party members of the healing debuff faster.
It's also very useful on Deathwing himself for the constant AoE damage from tentacles and arms. Comment by perculia5.4 ChangesGeneral. now prefers to target healers when it grants mana. Healers will always be picked before non-healers, regardless of how much mana they have. no longer has a facing requirement.
now deals 15% more damage. now deals 25% more damage.Discipline. can no longer be dispelled.
now energizes the Priest for 100% of the mana cost of / When the shield is fully consumed or is dispelled (used to energize the Priest with mana equal to 150% of their spirit). This is the modified mana cost for, after being reduced by Rapture’s passive effect. duration has been reduced to 10 seconds (down from 15 seconds), and the damage absorption shield's effectiveness can now be reduced through Battle Fatigue.Holy. mana cost reduced to 3.8% (down from 6.3%), and now functions like a smart heal, healing the 6 most injured friendly targets within range, and minor guardians are no longer targeted (Wild Imps, Bloodworms, Snakes from Snake Traps, etc.). There has been no change to the total amount of healing granted by the ability.
Lightspring is now baseline for all Holy Priests and the ability has been renamed to. 's mana cost reduction has been increased to 20% per stack (up from 10% per stack), and no longer displays a spell effect when in the UI when it's active.Shadow. now increases the Priest's armor by 60%, but no longer reduces all damage taken by 15%. now creates a shadowy version of the Priest that floats towards the target and deals damage. Comment by Rawrmuffin0 warning: personal story, not so much any help with the classGotta say, this class is my baby. Comment by Kataclysia My Thoughts on PriestMy first alt that stayed around and reached high levels was a Priest. More specifically a Discipline Priest. I quickly fell in love with the uniqueness of the spec and class. Today besides my main, which is a Marksman Hunter, my Discipline Priest is my favorite toon.If anyone wants to give healing a chance I would recommend a Disc Priest.
I have never tried Holy, but I do kind of like Shadow and may end up dual speccing my Priest just so she can have a dps build and a healing build. Comment by girlVSgamei am posting my very first question. That being said, i would like to know any tips (outside of the guides that i have been looking at extensively), i.e. Priority you have found not outlined in said guides or comfort and such in playing a druid healer.
The reason being my main is a spriest and my second a #$%^&.! (for about 7+ years i have always wanted to play a druid but i keep giving up and deleting my little druid girls and now i feel committed. Of course my decision came right b4 blizz implemented the recycle button and so instead of bringing back my last lvl 70ish druid i have to start from scratch lol.
No biggie though because i welcome learning my new toon from point blank. Ok so i have the lvl'ng gear for her she is at 50 but will 100 in 2 days(instance power lvl'g for the win huzzah! So then what i have my mods (healbot etc the usge) i am asking the pros to give your thoughts please also keep in mind that i could end up on your pug raid pissing you off cause of that one thing you wish i had known and i do not want to upset my tank! I want to thank everyone for all imput in advance:-) i would like to add that at the lvl im at i have not yet been responsible for a wipe and i am loving it:-D i felt the need to add that because i healed with my priest through wotlk and icc still makes me shudder. Comment by calicarebare05Check out my bubbles!;)I would just like to throw in my love for my disc priest. I know we have taken some hits and people like to comment in LFR about how low disc priests are on healing meters.
But check out those absorbs man, that is some sexy absorption!Love aside, I have a legitimate question. What are some of your favorite mana regen techniques? I hate sacrificing the Surge of Light talent for the improved shadowfiend (and am extremely upset that you now have to talent into mana gaining shadowfiends.) because those quick, instant flash of lights have proven to be amazing!
Comment by QcRomanI've seem some amazing priests in game and on videos like Youtube. I've played all classes, to max. Level (currently 110). I can't enjoy being a priest.I thought maybe discipline would be the type of healing I might reveal myself as being good at but sadly this did not happen, I'm no better at healing through atonement as I am any other way.
I can hardly heal to save my own life no matter the class, let alone anyone else so that's two specs out.And shadow is being a caster in the weakest type of armor. Everything seems to happen too slowly on my end or too fast coming at me, especially in larger numbers and I end up in trouble, not having much fun at all and dying more often than I can accept as normal.
My numbers are well below what I would want them to be compared to other classes I play and I struggle. Some people are amazing as priests, I am not one of them.
Not dissing on the class, I just know it's me. Something in me just isn't clicking with the play style of the damage dealing caster and once I get my priest to max level (and in the case of Legion, the priest campaign completed) I will sit him out until the level cap is raised once more. It's a bit sad as I'd much prefer having fun playing my priest as much as I do all the other classes but I can not fathom this happening anytime soon. Comment by SanctusFRHi, I'm playing disc priest now IL 927, I had no problems with mana for all the way up until last night I went from 917 to 927 item level, changed a few items, even added some gems for intellect, haste and mastery and today somehow my mana gets depleted so fast. I never used a mana flask on a raid before now I have to use one after each boss. I even runned out of mana on one. In case you want to take a look my char is Lutecia from Drakkari server. I don't know if I did something or an update made something but its a huge difference. Priests are devoted to the spiritual, and express their unwavering faith by serving the people.
For millennia they have left behind the confines of their temples and the comfort of their shrines so they can support their allies in war-torn lands.
